Contemporary society is rife with many different kinds of stress. Overcoming these stresses is an essential aspect of a healthy life. To do this, it is first necessary to accurately determine the level of stress. It has been demonstrated that serum thioredoxin levels increase in diseases that result in exposure to oxidative stress, including infectious diseases such as hepatitis C and AIDS as well as autoimmune diseases and chronic heart failure. Moreover, thioredoxin levels in body fluids have been shown to increase in the presence of a number of types of stress, including psychological stress. RBS is working to develop technologies and measurement kits for quick and accurate measurement of the amounts of thioredoxin expressed in the body for use as a stress marker. RBS is also planning to create stress measurement systems and develop portable stress sensors capable of monitoring stress levels within the body.
